Solar eclipse predictor, c.1750. An illustration showing a mechanism designed to exhibit the time, duration and location of solar eclipses seen from the Earth. This mechanism was designed by the Scottish astronomer James Ferguson (1710-1776). Ferguson was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1763.
