Oscilloclast: Dr. Albert Abrams claimed that electrons were the "basic biological unit" and disease was a "disharmony of electronic oscillations in the body." He invented a machine which supposedly played back electronic waves into the body thus "creating harmony and curing the body from disease." FDA prosecuted Abrams during the 1950s. The Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act of 1938 significantly increased federal regulatory authority over drugs by mandating a pre-market review of the safety of all new drugs, as well as banning false therapeutic claims in drug labeling without requiring that the FDA prove fraudulent intent.
