Franz Kafka (1883-1924) was a German author of short stories and novels. Kafka is regarded as one of the best writers of the 20th century. The term "Kafkaesque" has become part of the English language. He died of tuberculosis at the age of 40. Kafka's writing attracted little attention until after his death and most of his writing was published posthumously.
