By shaping the nozzle of a fire brigade hose in a special way and fitting it with radially mounted, adjustable levers, Charles Oyston of Little Falls, New York, as succeeded in obtaining a series of tapered, diverging water-jets. This results in a mist of fine spray which is said by the inventor to be more efficient in extinguishing fires than a solid column of water. By turning an adjustment ring on the nozzle, the fireman can produce the diverging jets of water.
