The 5 story pagoda was originally built for the 1915 Panama Pacific Exposition. The Japanese Tea Garden is a popular attraction in Golden Gate Park. The garden was an exhibit at an 1894 World's Fair. A wealthy, Japanese immigrant landscape designer, Baron Makoto Hagiwara, was successful in having the garden become a permanent attraction, after the Fair.
