The corpse of an FMLN rebel litters the street after a night of heavy fighting between government troops and FMLN guerrillas. On November 11th, 1989, the FMLN launched a military offensive in the capital San Salvador in an attempt to overthow the government. The street fighting lasted for weeks. In this picture the fallen guerrilla is still seen holding a home-made explosive (small white box) in his right hand which he was probably attempting to throw when he was shot and killed.
