Large platform drill rig set up at The Geysers Geothermal Field in northern California. Operators drill thousands of feet into geothermal formations (reservoirs of geothermal fluids embedded in fractured rock) to bring super-heated water to the surface, where it flashes into steam to spin turbines at geothermal power plants.
