The Old New Synagogue is the oldest synagogue in Europe that is still in use as a house of prayer. It is located on Maiselova Street in Josefov, the old Jewish quarter of Prague. It got it's name because when it was built in 1275 it was called the 'New' synagogue, but after 4000 or so years, when other synagogues had been built, it got it's present name. Franz Kafka, the writer, had his bar mitzvah here. The sawtooth gable is distinctive, as are the eyelid windows. The style is early Gothic.
