Fortified church at the center of Biertan (Birthalm) village in Transylvania, Romania. The church (1500-1525) rises inside a triple curtain wall with seven towers and three bastions. The Transylvanian Saxons (Siebenb羹rger Sachsen) fortified their churches as communal refuges in times of war and mostly against marauders. World Heritage site.
