Sarmizegetusa Regia, Transylvania, Romania. Here the Dacians, obstructing the expansion of Rome, in the 1st Century BC established their capital on a holy mountain in the Southern Carpathians. They had places of worship like this once-roofed circular sanctuary in a sacred precinct before succumbing to Roman Emperor Trajan in 106 AD. Archaeologists from the University of Cluj-Napoca at work. A World Heritage site.
