The first lighthouse constructed on Long Island is on the eastern tip of the south fork of the island, roughly 120 miles east of New York City. Construction was Federally approved by the Second Congress, under President George Washington in 1792. The lighthouse was built in 1796. It is 100 Foot tall, sits on Turtle hill, and has been in operation over 200 years, as an active aid to navigation. It is seen at dusk with it's light on.
