Jiahoe (織the confluence of two rivers織) (also named Yarkhoto) on an rocky spur between two rivers in the Turfan Depression, Xinjiang, China. Chinese of the Han Dynasty used it in defense of the borderland and as a center of commerce along the trade route later named 織Silk Road織. It early on became a bastion of Buddhism. Mongols destroyed it in the 13th c. The extensive remains comprise a city gate with a lookout post, a monastery, sanctuaries, dungeons, houses with smoke-stained chimney flues. The image depicts the so-called 織Hundred Stupas temple織: 4 x 5 x 5 stupas clustered around a central stupa with five towers in a mandala-like arrangement.
