Young male initiates learn about the relationships of men in the village. Long sticks represent different totem groups, and shorter sticks represent the men in each totem group. Their teacher sits on a stool with decorative crocodile legs carved from a solid tree trunk. Over his right shoulder he wears a betel nut bag decorated with cassowary feathers and boar's tusks. His face is decorated with string and small cowrie shells. The headdress is made from cassowary feathers. Arm bands are ground from large shells. 1953.
