He was the nominee of the Democratic Party in the 1968 presidential election, losing to the Republican nominee, Richard Nixon. Anna Eleanor Roosevelt (October 11, 1884 - November 7, 1962) was an American politician. She was the longest serving First Lady of the United States, holding the post from March 1933 to April 1945 during her husband's four terms in office. Adlai Ewing Stevenson II (February 5, 1900 _ July 14, 1965) was an American politician and diplomat, noted for his intellectual demeanor, eloquent public speaking, and promotion of liberal causes in the Democratic Party. He served as the 31st Governor of Illinois, and received the Democratic Party's nomination for president in 1952 even though he had not campaigned in the primaries.
