The view shows part of a large, 76 turbine wind farm, owned by Mid American Energy, in Adair, Iowa. The project is a 175 Megawatt generating wind farm. (1 megawatt will power about 700 homes.) Revenue from towers is rising. The 265 ft towers (the tallest in Iowa) now give lease profits of $4,000-$7,000 per year to land owners. That is up from the former leases of $2,000 per year, which was the norm until recently. The Siemens turbines have blades which rotate over a 300 foot area. Iowa ranks first in the nation in its percentage of electricity generated by wind. But even such renewable energy sources can cause damage. Wind turbines change the enviorment in respect to noise.
