Meteorologist Mike Umscheid documents a severe thunderstorm in South Dakota on June 11, 2003. While on duty at the National Weather Service in Dodge City, Kansas on May 3, 2007, Umscheid issued the early tornado warning for Greensburg that helped to save hundreds of lives. The Greensburg tornado, one of the largest twisters ever recorded, destroyed more than ninety percent of the community.
