Wavellite is aluminum hydroxyphosphate, a mineral of secondary origin that occurs in a wide variety of rock types. It is widespread but not abundant. Crystals are rare; its general appearance is in balls of thin fibrous crystals that display a lovely and distinctive radial pattern. One of the world's best known localities for wavellite is at Hot Springs, Arkansas.
