Chrysocolla, a blue copper silicate mineral; occurs in the vicinity of copper deposits throughout the world. It usually occurs in veins of massive material that is rarely translucent, and (as in the photo) often coated with a 'druse' of colorless quartz crystals. Translucent and rich blue material thick enough to fashion gemstones is highly prized in the gem marketplace.
