Upper Grinnell Lake in Glacier National Park, Montana, July 30, 2004. Grinnell Glacier is featured in the left half of the panorama, hugging the cliffs of the continental divide, while Salamander Glacier lies covered in snow in a depression higher on the wall. Grinnell Lake contains floating ice and snow where it used to form a solid glacier only 60 years ago. The lake water is colored turquoise by "glacial milk," suspended particles of limestone (calcium carbonate) scoured from its rocky bed.
