Eutrophic pond in Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, Pennsylvania, in summer. Eutrophic ponds are filled with plants and algae. This can be a natural process, or it can be caused by an increase in nutrients from fertilizers and detergents. Eventually, the pond may fill in and become a marsh or meadow.
