Fossilized sponge (Thamnospongia) preserved in a flint nodule, 80 mm wide. Thamnospongia occurs in Cretaceous rocks worldwide. The siliceous flint nodule, a form of chert frequently found in Britain and Europe, preserved the irregular branches and rough texture of the sponge.
