The combined effects of acid rain, balsam woolly aphid infestation, and severe weather have severely decimated trees on the north slope of Clingmans Dome, Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Tennessee. Species include Red Spruce (Picea rubens) and Fraser Fir (Abies fraseri).
