The Purcell Sill in Glacier National Park, Montana, is the black layer of rock between thin white layers, as seen here on Mt. Gould. A sill is a layer of igneous rock injected as a molten magma between beds of sedimentary rock. In this case, the hot diorite magma turned the surrounding limestone into marble, through contact metamorphism.
