Closeup of the white beak of the male Ivory-billed woodpecker (Campephilus principalis) (mounted museum specimen). This field mark distinguishes it from the pileated woodpecker, and gives it its name. Ivory-billed woodpeckers, America's largest woodpecker, were thought to be extinct since the mid 1950's until a sighting of live birds were made in 2004 and 2005.
