The Redmouth Whalefish, Rondeletia bicolor, makes a daily migration with the "deep scattering layer" or DSL. The DSL is a community of deep water wildlife that migrates every day to shallow water, at night, to feed on plankton. They return to the depths by day. It is the largest migration of wildlife on the planet, and it happens every 24 hrs. The specialized dentition of this species suggests a specific diet, possibly crustaceans. This individual was trawled in the Gulf of Mexico, 2015.
