Pigmentless and eyeless, the Southern Cave Fish, Typhlichthys subterraneus, is a rare and imperiled fish. This species has the largest range in the United States of any of the blind cave fish ranging from northwestern Georgia west to Missouri. It is listed by Nature Serve as a G3 "vulnerable species," and is listed by the IUCN as vulnerable. This specimen was photographed in a Tennessee Cave in the Appalachians.
