The Western Red-backed Salamander, Plethodon vehiculum, ranges throughout much of western Washington and Oregon, and northward to southern British Columbia and Vancouver Island. These salamanders live below forest debris. Eggs are deposited in a terrestrial environment from November to early March. Females in many populations deposit eggs every other year. This individual photographed outside of Vancouver, Canada, in 2012.
