Whitespotted Soapfish, Rypticus maculatus, can grow to 33cm (1ft. 1in.). They produce a poisonous mucus that covers their skin and protects them from predators. They lean on the bottom waiting for prey to approach and can quickly dash to attack prey. Common in the Caribbean. Photographed in Grand Cayman.
