The Spiny Stick Insect, Heteropteryx dilatata, also goes by the name of "Malayan Jungle Nymph." These spine covered insects can grow to lengths exceeding 14 cm (5 inches). Males have wings and can fly. Females will use their spiny legs and swing them at potential predators and or threats. This specimen was photographed in Thailand, 2011.
