A whole mount, preserved specimen of an Ant Lion (Antlion) larva, family Myrmeleontidae. The larvae are sometimes called doodlebugs. The Ant Lion will create a conical pit in dry dusty earth and live at the bottom of it with their sickle like jaws extended upward waiting for prey to fall into their trap. They feed on ants (hence the name) and other insects.
