Hercules Beetles, Dynastes hercules, are large beetles. Males have enormous horns that they use to fight. These beetles are considered one of the strongest of all animals, able to carry 850 times its own body weight. The larvae live for 1 or 2 years as grubs that grow to four inches or more in length. The adults will search the forest floor for rotting fruits. This species was photographed in Amazonian Peru in 2010.
