Front left flipper bones of a Bowhead Whale (Balaena mysticetus). Red Bay, Labrador. The bones of a whale flipper are analagous to those of the human arm and hand. The large bone at top is the humerus. Below that are the radius and ulna, four carpals (or 'wrist' bones), and metacarpals and phalanges which make up the 'fingers'.
