Common Mist Frog (Litoria rheocola). This frog grows to around 5 cms. It is usually found on rocks and vegetation near fast-flowing streams in rainforest from sea level up to 1000 metres altitude in the wet tropics of north-eastern Australia. It is an endangered species and has disappeared from most sites above 400m but lowland populations remain secure. Males call from rocks and boulders next to streams, all year round. The eggs are large and laid in compact gelatinous clumps under rocks in fast-flowing streams. Its tadpoles are found in swiftly flowing rainforest streams, clinging to rocks in riffles, torrents, and highly oxygenated pools. Nandroya Falls, Atherton Tablelands, Queensland, tropical northern Australia.
