Black Sea Rod (Plexaura homomalla) forms bushy colonies up to 60 cm (2 ft.) tall. When damaged it releases a potent irritant into the water. It has been harvested for analysis for the treatment of cardiovascular disease, asthma, and gastric ulcers. Photographed in Grand Cayman.
