Giant Chameleon Gecko (Carphodactylus laevis). This large gecko grows to a total length of around 25 cms. It is endemic to the rainforests of tropical northeastern Australia. It is largely terrestrial, though it characteristically perches nocturnally on fallen trees or small saplings a little distance above the ground from where it scans the surrounding leaf litter for its insect and spider prey, as the gecko in this image is doing.
