Legless Lizard (Delma tincta), Family Pygopodidae, from Alice Springs, Central Australia. 25 cms total length. This species is widespread across tropical northern Australia. This family of reptiles occur only in Australia and Papua New Guinea. They are closely related to the geckos. Superficially snake-like, they have no forelimbs but vestigial hindlimbs in the form of very small flaps. They are insect eaters and totally harmless. Note the external ear opening on the side of the head which is absent in snakes.
