Male Western Fence Lizard (Sceloporus occidentalis); the iridescent blue patch on throat and belly is used in territorial displays. The ticks visible on the neck of this lizard may carry the bacteria that cause Lyme disease, but a component of the lizard's blood destroys the bacteria when the tick feeds on the lizard.
