Blue Dasher Dragonfly (Pachydiplax longipennis) a.k.a. Swift Long-winged Skimmer. Habitat: Ponds, marshes, sluggish streams. Season: Late June-early Sept. Notes: Male thorax striped black and yellow; abdomen blue with black tip. Female and immature duller. Wings mostly clear. Common near quiet waters. When egg laying, the female flies parallel to the water and flicks the tip of her abdomen downwards to wash off the eggs. Summer. Ludlow, MA. Wild.
