Ramsey Canyon Leopard Frogs (Rana subaquavocalis) are found only in the Huachuca Mountains. They are best known for their males' unique habit of calling for a mate while underwater. The Ramsey Canyon leopard frog became a candidate for federal listing in 1994. To ensure that this species would be here in the future, a Candidate Conservation Agreement (CCA) was written and implemented in 1996. The success of this voluntary agreement eliminated the need to federally list this species, and in 1997, it was no longer considered a candidate species. The CCA established cooperative efforts between government agencies and private property owners to identify and eliminate threats to Ramsey Canyon Leopard frog populations.
