Male Elephant Seals (Mirounga angustirostris) rear up one their foreflippers and fight for territory and harems of females. The older males develop a cornified chest, which is a thick calloused chest with numerous creases that are often pink, white and brown in color. This cornified chest is used in the physical fighting that goes on from December through March. During this time, the seals nearly fast as they fight to maintain their territory and harem.
