Pacific Golden-Plover (Pluvialis fulva) in non-breeding plumage, Ka'elepulu Wetlands, O'ahu, Hawaii. This bird is known as one of the longest non-stop migrants in the world, can make the 3,000 mile trip from Alaska to Hawaii in 70 hours. These birds breed in the arctic tundra in western Alaska and winter on the islands of the Pacific Ocean. They are found on muddy, rocky and sandy wetlands, shores, coastal golf courses, estuaries and lagoons.
