Chauliodus sloani, Sloane's Viperfish, is a deep water, mesopelagic predator. It has photophores on its face and body that produce light, bioluminescence. It also has photophores on its mouth. This species is known to migrate to shallower waters at night. This individual was captured in a trawl between 640 and 1000 meters depth in the Gulf of Mexico, 2007.
