Flower bud of nodding thistle, Carduus nutans, with a lady bug. This biennial, noxious, introduced weed is not in the true thistle genus, Cirsium. It is easily identified by the extraordinarily developed spine-tipped bracts on the flower's recepticle. It is firmly established throughout almost all of temperate North America from Canada south into Mexico. Photo taken Dallas Co., TX
