Texas jeweled scarab, Chrysina (Plusiotis) woodi. This gorgeous beetle belongs to the subfamily of leaf chafers (Rutelinae) within the large family of scarab beetles (Scarabaeidae). It is found in the mountains of Trans-Pecos TX north to the Guadalupe Mountains in extreme southern NM. There are 30 species of leaf chafers with most being found in Mexico and Central America. Some appear to be made of polished silver or gold.
