The Shield Nose Cobra, Aspidelaps scutatus, is a very small cobra, averaging only two feet in length. It inhabits sandy and rocky areas of Namibia and Botswana to northwestern Transvaal. The shield-like nose scale aids this cobra in pushing through sand and gravel in search of its small prey. Like other species in this genus, it lacks the typical cobra expandable hood.
