This is the funnel nest of the hylid frog Phyllomedusa tomopterna. These frogs frequent the wet forests of South America east of the Andes. The adults lay their egg mass on leaves above the water. They wrap the edges of the leaf around the eggs and glue the edges together with skin sectretion. The eggs develop wrapped up and hidden from predators. When the tadpoles hatch, they slide down the leaf and into the water below.
