The Central American casque headed frog (Hemiphractus fasciatus) is the only member of its genus found in Central America. All other Hemiphractus members are found east of the Andes in the Amazon basin. They are primarily forest frogs and have likely suffered considerable population declines as a result of the severe deforestation that has occurred in lower Central America. This frog was photographed in Panama.
