The Northern shoveler (Anas clypeata) is named for its distinct large "spoon-shaped" bill. The drake has a green head and neck separated from a chestnut belly and sides by a white chest and breast. The Northern Shoveler's main breeding grounds occur in the prairie pothole region of Saskatchewan, Alberta, Manitoba, and the Dakotas. This individual was photographed in the Sweetwater Wetlands of Tucson, Arizona.
