The Cape Barren Goose's (Cereopsis novaehollandiae) plumage is pale grey with black markings near the tips of its wings and tail. It has pink legs and black feet. Its most striking feature is the bright greenish yellow cere on its short black bill. Cape Barren Geese live mainly on small, windswept, generally uninhabited offshore islands of Southern Australia and Tasmania. Their ability to drink salt or brackish water allows the geese to remain on these islands all year round. While the Cape Barren Goose is not considered endangered, it remains one of the world's rarest geese. This individual was photographed at the World Wildlife Zoo in Phoenix, Arizona.
