Bee (Agapostemon virescens) collecting pollen from a Coreopsis hybrid. Most pollen-collecting bees are densely covered with branched or plumose hairs, in which pollen grains are trapped. Most solitary and primitively social mining bees, such as the Agapostemon spp., carry compacted pollen in the scopa, a patch of modified hairs on the hind legs.
